Privacy, in plain language.

Cherry is built around a local-first promise. This notice explains what stays on your device, what leaves it when you choose an online feature, and the controls available to you.

Core budgets stay local.

Your budgets, categories, income and transactions are stored in SQLite on your device by default.

Online features are optional.

AI, voice parsing, receipt extraction and subscriptions use only the data needed for the feature you request.

No advertising tracking.

Cherry does not sell your personal data or use it to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Who we are

Cherry is a personal budgeting application operated by Jase Digital LTD (“Jase Digital”, “Cherry”, “we”, “our” or “us”). This policy covers the Cherry mobile app and this marketing website.

The local-first distinction

Most information you enter into Cherry is stored only on your device. Jase Digital cannot access locally stored financial records unless you deliberately submit information through an online feature or support request.

The marketing website

At the effective date above, this website is a static marketing site. It does not provide user accounts, collect information through forms, or include advertising or marketing analytics trackers. Following a link to an app store is governed by that store’s privacy practices.

Information Cherry handles

Stored on your device

  • Your local profile name and local user identifier.
  • Budgets, categories, income, expenses, transactions and recurring or scheduled payment information.
  • Currency, onboarding, notification and app preferences.
  • PIN, biometric unlock preference and app-lock settings. Your biometric data itself is handled by your device operating system and is not received by Cherry.
  • Free-usage counters and a local cache of Premium access.
  • Encrypted backup files that you create and choose to save or share.

Subscriptions and purchases

Purchases are processed by the applicable app store. Cherry does not receive your card or bank-account details. Cherry and Superwall may process purchase history, subscription and entitlement status, restore results, paywall interactions, and limited app, device, storefront or country-level information needed to provide and analyse subscription access.

Optional AI and transaction-entry features

When you choose an AI-assisted feature, Cherry may send limited information through the Cherry backend. The information depends on the feature:

  • AI chat and weekly insights use privacy-minimised, aggregated budget summaries rather than raw transaction lists.
  • Voice entry sends the speech transcript needed to parse the transaction. The operating system provides speech recognition.
  • Receipt scanning may send the receipt image or extracted OCR text needed to identify line items.
  • Auto-categorisation may send transaction text, amount and the relevant category names so a category can be suggested.

Cherry’s production AI requests are routed through the Cherry backend. AI-provider secret keys are not included in the mobile application.

Device permissions

Cherry may request camera or photo access for receipt scanning, microphone and speech-recognition access for voice entry, notification permission for local reminders, and biometric permission for app unlock. Permission requests are made in context and can be declined through your device settings.

How we use information

We use information only for purposes connected with Cherry, including to:

  • Provide budgeting, transaction, receipt, voice and optional AI features.
  • Process and restore Premium subscription access.
  • Maintain subscription entitlements and understand paywall performance.
  • Secure the service, prevent misuse and troubleshoot failures.
  • Respond to support, privacy and purchase enquiries.
  • Meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations where they apply.

Cherry does not display third-party advertising and does not sell personal data.

Our legal bases

Where UK data-protection law applies, the lawful basis depends on the feature and purpose:

PurposeTypical lawful basis
Providing requested app, AI, receipt, voice and subscription functionalityPerformance of our contract with you
Optional device permissions and optional processing where consent is requiredYour consent, which you may withdraw
Security, fraud prevention, support and service improvementOur legitimate interests in operating a safe and reliable service
Tax, accounting, law-enforcement or regulatory requirementsCompliance with a legal obligation

Cherry does not make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects. AI suggestions and categorisation remain tools for you to review.

Services and sharing

We do not share your information for advertising. Data may be processed by the following services when required for a feature:

  • Apple App Store, Google Play and their purchase systems for downloads, purchases, subscriptions and refunds.
  • Superwall for paywalls, subscription entitlements, restore flows and related analytics.
  • AI service providers accessed through the Cherry backend for the AI, voice-parsing, receipt and categorisation requests you initiate.
  • Your device operating system for local notifications, biometrics, camera, photo access and speech recognition.
  • Authorities or professional advisers when disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.

Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. The providers and processing locations depend on the online feature you choose. Before enabling a transfer to a country that is not covered by UK adequacy regulations, Jase Digital requires an applicable safeguard such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with a transfer-risk assessment where required.

Storage, retention and deletion

Local app data

Local budgets and transactions remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app, subject to your operating system’s backup and deletion behaviour. Cherry does not maintain a hosted account containing your core financial records.

Encrypted backups

Backups are password-protected files that you choose to create, store and share. You control where they are retained and must delete unwanted copies from the storage provider you selected. Cherry cannot recover an encrypted backup without its password.

Online feature data

Cherry does not use online-feature data as a hosted copy of your transaction history. Request content is kept only while it is needed to complete the feature you requested, investigate an identified service failure or security incident, or meet a specific legal hold. When none of those criteria applies, the content is deleted or anonymised. A provider may keep security or service logs on its own published schedule; contact us for the provider and schedule currently used by a particular feature before submitting data you consider especially sensitive.

Purchase records

App stores and Superwall may retain subscription and purchase records as needed for entitlements, restore flows, fraud prevention, support, analytics and legal or accounting records.

Your choices and rights

You can use core budgeting without enabling every optional feature. You can also:

  • Decline or revoke camera, photo, microphone, speech-recognition, notification or biometric permissions in device settings.
  • Turn off optional AI-related preferences where the app provides a control.
  • Review and correct transaction or category suggestions before saving them.
  • Delete local records or remove the app to delete its local data.
  • Delete encrypted backup files from the storage locations you selected.
  • Manage or cancel subscriptions through the applicable app store.

Depending on the processing and your location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of personal data, and to receive portable data. You may withdraw consent at any time where consent is the lawful basis. These rights generally apply to information Jase Digital or its processors hold—not information that remains solely on your device and is inaccessible to us.

You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the data-protection authority where you live or work.

Children’s privacy

Cherry is a general-audience budgeting app and is not directed at collecting children’s personal information through its online features. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to an online feature, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Cherry, its service providers or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide an in-app or store-listing notice of material changes before they take effect.
